Psychological horror film directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and written by David Leslie Johnson from a story by Alex Mace.
It stars Vera Farmiga and Isabel Fuhrman, who was not so popular at the time, but is quite recognizable now for such movies like : Escape Room, Hunger Games, Down a Dark Hall.
Also, apparently Leo Di Caprio is listed as one on the producers for the Orphan movie.
A nice couple who have just experienced a stillbirth decided to adopt an adorable 9 year old girl - Esther. At this point, they already have 2 kids of their own: 5-year-old deaf daughter Max and 12-year-old son Daniel.
First of all, how did anyone give a kid for adoption to a such broken unstable mother? Did someone even check her? She clearly has drinking problems.
While in the orphanage, of course, from all happy running around kids, the father is drawn to the only lonely kid, who is just sitting there and painting (yes, imagine, 9 yo can paint that?).
She tells the parents that nobody talks to her because she is different... NO QUESTIONS?
Then they discover that she is actually Russian, but speaks perfect English.. STILL NOTHING? She also learns the silent language pretty quick though.
So one by one some weird things are happening around Ester... She is much smarter and aware of things than a normal 9 year old should be... Then there are so many really weird ''accident'' going on, that's when mommy started to put her sh''t together and suspect that the girl is not who they thought she is. But who will trust an unstable drunkie?
By now you are probably thinking she is some DEMON GIRL! but NOPE this is not it.
CAREFUL! SPOILERS AHEAD!
As it appears, little Esther is not a little girls at all. She is a grown woman of 33 y.o., who just wanted daddy's attention (and is also a sadistic killer).
To tell the truth, the first time I watched the movie, I genuinely did not expect such an outcome. It was one of the most unpredictable turns in witnessed.
However, there are soooo many things that do not make any sense. How did the parents never see a 9-year-old girl in bathing clothes? they never took her to doctor for check up?
okay the family is all dumb, but what about the school?
So apparently, this movie is based on a true story of Barbora Skrlová, a woman who was discovered posing as a 13-year-old boy in Norway after she had escaped from another family.
Like I am very sorry, no offense, but how ignorant people must be not to notice all this....
